About Hull:
Hull, or more properly Kingston upon Hull has been for many years one of England's major shipping centres. The proximity of Hull to the continent has meant that much of the trade from the northern woollen towns was routed through Hull. The town also became an important centre of the fishing industry given its closeness to the rich fishing grounds of the North Sea.
Whilst the fishing industry has been in decline for a number of years there are still shipping links to the continent.
No mention of Hull could omit The Deep. Here the visitor can discover the oceans of the world, through time, in a tank containing many species of sea creatures, including seven species of shark.
Amongst Hull's many claims to fame is the fact that it was the home of William Wilberforce who did so much to abolish the slave trade. The modern city is one of contrasts from the Old Town and Museum's Quarter to the thriving creative industries and the modern Princess Quay Shopping Centre seemingly floating above the docks.
The Humber Bridge was for a time in the 1980's the worlds longest single span suspension bridge.
